08 Jul Sorting out the summer shoe and sandal trends
Now that we’re officially in summer (and with some great shoes and sandals in the store!) it’s a good time to sort out this year’s trends in shoes and sandals. We see five big trends with staying power: chunky platforms, block heels, lace-ups, old school sneakers, and the return of the comfort slide.
If you’re like us, we lived in booties all winter and fall. And we found it really hard to give them up once warmer weather set in. But a close look at the chunky platforms trending right now reveals a bootie-like profile in sandal form. Think ankle high thick straps, criss-cross, and zippers.
It’s a bootie with ventilation! Some designers have taken this concept quite literally, and we’re seeing a lot of perforated booties. Here are two we especially like, both with block heels.
Block heels look great and they have the added bonus of being easy to walk in.
Lace ups and gladiators are back. We especially like espadrilles with lace-up straps. Lace ups pair well with rolled jeans or flirty skirts.
Sneakers, tennis shoes, trainers. Whatever you call them – the classics are back. Reaching beyond the ubiquitous Chuck Taylors, we’re liking classic Stan Smith and Nike Superstars. Or channel your surfer girl and slip into a pair of Vans. And last but not least – comfort slides show no sign of stopping with Birks and Dr. Scholls leading the pack. From a Chanel inspired tweed to actually wearing Birks with Chanel – Birks are everywhere and we’re wearing them with everything.
Also in the comfort slide category is one last look we’re just beginning to see, but we’re betting will be a strong trend this fall, is the return of the mule. Inspired by moroccan slip ons we’re loving this tailored elegant pair in black.
And this street look pairs fabulously fringed denim with an elegant black slide.
